Saturday 8th December saw PASA Stallions FC once again represent Northern Suburbs Football at Football NSW’s Champion of Champions tournament for Summer Football. Held at Valentine Park, we were placed in Group B.
Our first game saw a game against Lowland Wanderers. A great start from us from PASA Stallions saw Ben Trinder open the scoring, followed by a goal from Enrique Horna. After weathering a slight storm from the Wanderers, Sam Coburn saw us take a 3-0 lead into half time.
After the break, it was all Wanderers, with two quick goals made it 3-2 with 7 minutes to go. Kieran Murray then scored to make it 4-2. A crazy last 2 minutes saw such survive with a 4-3 win. However, the game saw us lose our star defender Jarrod Khra for the rest of the tournament with an ankle injury.
Game 2 saw us go head to head against Ryde Panthers. The heat started kicking in and a hard fought half saw us go 0-0 into the sheds. However, 2 lapses of concentration saw us go down 2-0.
Game 3 was against SGFA. The temperature kept soaring and our squad was feeling it. Already down a rotation, niggling injuries started creeping in. SGFA got out to a very hot start, going 4-0 into half time. However, it was a different PASA Stallions team after the break. 2 quick goals saw us dominate, and we just couldn’t convert our chances when they came. A late goal from SGFA saw us go down 5-2.
Game 4 was played in ridiculously hot conditions. Due to the synthetic grass, players feet were burning due to the 40 degree heat. Unfortunately, we ran out of legs against a team who had 3 extra subs and used them well. Going down 7-1 in our last game wasn’t the way we wanted to go out of the tournament, but we showed that we could match it. Losing key players due to injury and the heat wasn’t ideal, but we still gave it our absolute best.
It was still a great day out, and hopefully PASA Stallions FC can qualify for the 2019 edition.
